Do you want to know your risk for developing breast cancer? Most women would say, “yes” if they could do something to lower that risk.  Extensive research in the 1990’s uncovered very important information related to the development of breast cancer that frankly many M.D.’s are still not aware of.  Researchers at Rockefeller University found that the body creates different forms of estrogen called “metabolites,” some of which promote the growth of estrogen-dependent cancer and others which help prevent the development of these cancers.

The estrogen metabolites which protect the body from the development of an estrogen-dependent cancer, such as breast, uterine, cervical and some certain type of colon and lung cancer, we call “good estrogen.” One example of ‘good estrogen’ is 2-hydroxyestrone (2-OHE1).

But the body also makes “bad estrogen” – metabolites that are inflammatory and encourage the development of estrogen-dependent cancer.  One example is the metabolite 16-alpha-hydroxyestrone.

Researchers found that when a woman’s body is making twice as much of the “good” type of estrogen as the “bad,”  her risk of developing breast cancer is more than cut in half.

The Estronex Test measures your ratio of 2-hydroxyestrone, a “good” estrogen, to your 16-alpha-hydroxyestrone, one type of “bad” estrogen. The test results let you know if you are in a “safer” zone.

What is the Test?

It is a simple urine test. You take the Estronex test in the following way:  You may purchase the test on-line or by calling 646-290-8651.  Whole World Lab will ship you a mailer test kit which you will use to provide a urine sample.  You freeze the urine in the freezer compartment of your refrigerator over night and drop the pre-addressed prepaid mailer test kit in a mail box.  You will receive your results in the mail within two weeks.

How do I interpret the results of the test?

If the results of the test show that you are in a “danger zone,” what can you do to lower your risk for developing breast cancer?

Extensive university research in the 1990’s showed that both animals and human beings could lower their risk for developing estrogen-dependent cancers in as little as three weeks with some simple dietary changes.  Basically, you can change your risk profile by eating one cup of raw or lightly steamed (less than 7 minutes) cruciferous vegetables at least three times a week.  These vegetables include: broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kale, watercress, radishes.  If you find this difficult or impossible to do on a regular basis you may also purchase a supplement which provides diindolylmethane, a breakdown product from indole-3-carbinol found in cruciferous vegetables which helps the body to produce more “good” estrogen.  Whole World Botanicals has such a product, Royal Maca Plus for Women with DIM and also Super Royal Maca for Men with DIM.
